Two people were killed in the election violence, the government of Cote d'Ivoire said on Sunday.

The government said in a statement that the two death were one military man and a civilian.

Tensions escalated during the election campaign which ran from last Saturday to Friday. At least two persons were reportedly dead and a number of others injured in the skirmishes between supporters of the two candidates in the run-up to the second round.

Gbagbo on Saturday declared an election curfew in a presidential decree, one day after announcing it in his first televised debate with Ouattara.
